KN95/FFP2 valveless respirator masks are the European equivalent of the US N95 respirator masks and provide one of the highest level of protection available. The KN95 respirator masks also conform to EN149:2001+A1:2009, are CE marked and conform to the standards set out by the World Health Organisation.
These standards provide for the protection of the wearer against the inhalation of droplets, particles suspended in the air and airborne substances such as bioaerosols (e.g. viruses).
There are a number of standards and certification. To clarify:
3M, the worker safety and US health care multinational conglomerate Technical Bulletin May 2020 R shows KN95, FFP2 and N95 equivalence:
*"Based on this comparison, it is reasonable to consider China KN95, AS/NZ P2, Korea 1st Class, and Japan DS2 FFRs as “equivalent” to US NIOSH N95 and European FFP2 respirators, for filtering non-oil-based particles such as those resulting from wildfires, PM 2.5 air pollution, volcanic eruptions, or bioaerosols (e.g. viruses)."
This is a specialised device. Correct mask fitting allows for a more comfortable experience and is necessary to ensure the mask is effective. Seek proper advice if in any doubt.
