Uwell Caliburn G4 Review Banner with Device

Whether this is your first look at a Uwell Caliburn device or you may be looking to add to your collection, the Uwell Caliburn G4 is an exciting new device with a few noticeable upgrades.

This review will look at the main highlights of this pod vape and why you should consider the G4 a worthwhile purchase at under £25 for the kit, which includes two different pods.

Can it redefine the Caliburn series or is the G4 too familiar?

The Unique Uwell Caliburn Pod Vape Device

The Caliburn series, which first featured on vapers radars in 2019 was at the time cutting-edge for its patented Pro-Focs technology and user-friendly pod design. Filling has always been straightforward with the Caliburn range but in terms of power and customisation it was lacking.

Now the Caliburn G4 steps the innovation of the G series up a gear from the previous Caliburn G, Caliburn G2 and G3 with dual-powered airflow, changed by either the airflow switch or reversing the pods (even a combination of the two creates a different sensation).

In addition, there are further standout features. The 1300mAh battery is much larger than the 900mAh battery from the Uwell G3 and 750mAh battery from the G2. Pro-Focs technology is now up to version 4.0, upgrading ever-so-slightly like an Apple Macbook.

Boasting Ultrasonic U² welding technology, the Uwell Caliburn G3 Pods and GPP pods (it supports both) are an increase in cartridge lifespan and flavour satisfaction (up 35% on previous ranges according to Uwell). They enhance the performance by focusing on reducing leaks and greatly optimising airflow.

A new UI system creates a fun experience with two animation modes – storm mode and waves mode, as well as day and night modes. Add to the mix a multi-functional control button and you have one impressive, upgraded kit.

How Does the Uwell Caliburn G4 Vape?

From testing the new GPP pods, we can see there is a clear upgrade in flavour and longevity. The G4 produces a nice MTL vape experience which is looser MTL than traditional tight MTL. With the new adjustable airflow switch, that can slide up and down to fine tune effortlessly, any vaper can use this device and customise to their liking.

Compared to previous Caliburn models, it is one of the best, even after the popularity seen previously with the previous Caliburn G3 device. A longer battery life means less charging.

The pods are cross compatible with other kits in the Caliburn series, which is always welcome and with these pods you can reverse them to also try a different way of vaping.

When testing the difference between the ‘storm mode’ and the ‘wave mode’, we could not feel much change in vape sensation or throat hit. It felt very similar and with the added UI display animations, this can drain the 1300mAh battery and not achieve much.

However, in terms of flavour, the upgraded PRO‑FOCS 4.0 coil tech ensures better heat distribution and flavour consistency over time, so it pairs very well with a wide range of nic salts and freebase nicotine e-liquids. Early feedback and use show zero spit back and no leakage or condensation buildup with the GPP pods, which is perfect for a reliable experience that saves on vape juice.

There is a fair amount of cloud production with a restricted direct lung or you can choose a higher resistance coil and receieve less cloud performance for a more discreet vape.

Design And Functionality Explained

This is one slick and comfortable device to hold in the hand. Available in eight different colour schemes, each are as bold and punchy as the next, with Flamingo Red, Glacier Blue and Sahara Gold our top picks. It is made with a robust titanium body and patterned like an army jacket.

One of the best upgrades is the location of the fill port for vape juice. Still recognised as a side fill pod like the G3 pods, the key difference with the new GPP pods is the higher position. Higher up towards the mouthpiece, this means you can fill with juice while the pod remains in the device! Therefore, filling is much easier and more efficient.

Plus, weighing just 54g, it is still a relatively light device but heavier than the previous Caliburn G models due to the battery power increase. The major change with the design of the G4 is the UI animation display. It certainly stands out but may look slightly gimmicky to some.

Nevertheless, the 0.85-inch colour display is a generous enough size and seems to be standard these days for pod kits, with many featuring this dimension. The multi-function control feature is handy, to toggle between menu features, light up the screen and power the device on and off. You also have day and night mode which when selected dims or brightens the display.

How Does it Compare to Others in the Caliburn Series?

As you can see from the Caliburn G table below, there are considerable differences between the latest Caliburn G4 model and previous models in the series. Even when you cross compare with other ranges in the Caliburn collection, such as the A range or the Koko range, there are not many with a display screen. Exceptions include the pod-mod GK3 and the Caliburn X. The majority are basic in design (assuming a cost-saving exercise) with an e-liquid window and Pro-Focs pod technology. With an increase in flavour intensity alone, this could be the definitive pod kit in the Caliburn series. Add to that a much larger battery life and power output and you have a more versatile option for day-to-day vaping needs.

Feature G2 G3 G4 (New)
Battery 750 mAh 900 mAh 1300 mAh

Caliburn G Series Dimensions Comparison

As we can see from the dimensions table, there is not much in it even with an extended battery life between the four Caliburn G models. There is a 7mm difference in height between the G4 and G2 and a 3mm width difference. The depth is the same across the board but there is a 18g weight difference.

Device Height Width Depth Weight
G2 110mm 22.5mm 13mm 36g
G3 115mm 24mm 13mm 45g
G4 117mm 25.8mm 13.9mm 54g

Caliburn G4 Advantages

  • Increase in flavour longevity and pod lifecycle
  • Higher wattage output
  • Increase to 1300mAh battery
  • Dual adjustable airflow
  • UI display screen
  • Range of pods and side fill coil resistances
  • Enhanced anti-leak and airflow technology
  • Boosted 4.0 Pro-Focs flavour
  • Multi-functional control button
  • Clear vape juice window

Any Disadvantages From The Uwell Caliburn G4?

  • The slight weight plus height increase may put off a picky vaper but there is not a major difference and with it you get a battery increase for less charging time!
  • No adjustable wattage – only opportunity is by changing between the storm and waves modes

Verdict

Some of the best vape devices in the past five years have been trustworthy, high-quality and versatile pod kits. Series such as the Oxva Xlim or Vaporesso Xros lead the way in innovation and user-friendly design, with the Uwell Caliburn series part of that conversation.

With the Caliburn G4, it is by far the best in their collection. Granted, the UI-themed power modes are more gimmick than practical, which is why they brought out the Uwell Caliburn G4 Mini without a screen at the same time. But overall, the battery capacity is impressive, the adjustable airflow is intuitive with upgraded reversible pods that are easier to fill and the device is very reliable with virtually no leaks and a clear increase in flavour output.
