How Does It Vape?

Plenty of airflow, which is ideal for Sub-Ohm vaping, especially from the dual mesh coil, which provides a rich and dense vapour. The three different airflow slots allow you to tailor with ease (although it’s slightly on the noisy side), giving you an extremely large amount of cloud, which is welcome for many but not the main selling point for mouth-to-lung vapers.

It’s surprising regarding the longevity of these coils, which not only support large clouds for a sustained period but still maintain high levels of flavour from the e-liquids. Smok seems to be going back to old ways in recent times, focusing on high-quality Sub-Ohm coils that support DTL vaping instead of solely fixated on pod vaping, like with the long series of Nord kits for instance. It has a super fast response time when firing of 0.0001 seconds which is great and a handy temperature control feature which reduces the chances of your cotton wick burning inside the coils. Kudos Smok!

Can You Change the Coils Manually?

With the TFV 18 Mini Tank, it’s a routine straightforward process to change the coils. Simply unscrew the base of the tank and add the V18 Mini Mesh coils by placing them carefully and then screwing those in a clockwise direction. There are two types to pick from; the dual mesh 0.15 Sub-Ohm resistance or 0.2 & 0.33 single Sub-Ohm coils.

Each provides a different direct lung-tailored experience in terms of flavour, cloud production and density.

Design And Functionality Explained

This is a slick bulky mod that does not disappoint in terms of ergonomics, feeling in the hand and how you navigate through the settings. There is a very likeable button firebar on the side of the device, which is easy to press and use. You can grip and fire all in one smooth action and not need to move your hand to tap the button constantly. This is a frequent issue with some vapers! On the other side, you have a nice rubber coating for the other panel, giving the Priv 4 a decent aesthetic look.

At the bottom, you have a strong battery door which holds the dual 18650s in place firmly with no qualms. However, for such a powerful mod it would be nice if they designed the Priv 4 so it was compatible with the 18700s too.

The screen is much like the previous Priv 3 - large and easy to read plus a great navigational experience through a simple menu set-up. At 0.4 inches smaller, they’ve downgraded the OLED display (maybe this was because they had some complaints about the previous model being too big). One of the best features which creates a smartphone vibe is the lock button on the side of the mod. This produces such a smooth process from turning on your device to hitting the fire button - to help on the Sub-Ohm journey.

In addition, the TFV18 is the latest iteration of a never-ending series - displaying some of its trademarks such as a top fill sliding mechanism. Simple to fill, it’s just what’s needed when you regularly need to top up thick high VG vape juice.

Verdict

Smok Sub-Ohm vaping is back with a bang. he TFV18 Mini tank hits the nail on the head with excellent performance, adjustability and flavour from the fantastic mixture of low resistance coils. Meanwhile, the touch screen is a delight for anyone seeking a practical and simplistic vaping tool. Thanks to the locking switch, the easy-to-navigate menu and my mode set up to create four personalised settings to switch between, DTL vaping couldn't be easier or faster.

Other plus points include a fantastic build quality, a nice leather panel which seems like the trend for 2021-22 and huge amounts of vapour you can enjoy from a very powerful device boasting up to 230W. There are a couple of minor nuances we’ve highlighted above which could be tweaked on the next mod but overall we highly rate the performance and design of the latest mod from Smok - the G-Priv 4.
